Why are investors, particularly Asian investors, paying more attention to flows than before? What’s driving the interest in flows - the global liquidity crisis, new trends such as the rise of ETFs, growing institutional allocation to EM (particularly Asia ex-Japan markets), perceived value of technical signals in Asian markets. Topic 2 - Types of flows (10 mins) EPFR will explain the differences between various sources of flows information (stock exchange flows, foreign direct Investment, and portfolio flows) that are available to Asian investors. What 3rd party research exists (for example IMF papers, academic papers) to help investors get more knowledgeable. Topic 3 - Flows and the investment process (40 mins) 3A) Understanding flows’ information value as a systematic and discretionary input: tips from EPFR’s Head of Quantitative Research Ø Cross-sectional vs time series approaches Ø Flows as a complement to other factors such as price – where is the additive value Ø Leveraging differences in investor type, flow type (retail vs institutional, active vs passive) Ø In which asset classes, and when, are flows particularly important. 3B) Case Studies - actual examples of how investors are using flows to |

Mr. Adam Longenecker
Director of Quantitative Research at EPFR Global
Adam Longenecker is Director of Quantitative Research at EPFR Global. He is responsible for new product development and the maintenance of all asset allocation strategies maintained by the firm. Adam co-authors EPFR's ChartBook Research with Cameron Brandt. Before joining the team at EPFR, Adam founded AHL Investment Resources, which specializes in bespoke investment research and solutions for the hedge fund, pension fund, and insurance industries. Prior to founding AHL, Adam was an analyst at Deutsche Bank. He graduated from Centre College with a degree in History and International Relations, and has a Masters in Finance from the University of Florida.
